Connectedness

Ps Jonathan, he pastor Eaglepoint Penang. He's here for pastoral photoshoot and of course holiday. Since he is in town, how can we not hear from him? In line with our theme - CONNECT, Ps Jon also shared on being connected.

The way he sees Mark 2, really enlighten me - the 4 friends with a paralytic guy.
Why do we want to be connected? What's the benefits of being connected?
Ah... you have answer for it? this is what Ps Jon shared... 4 benefit of being connected:
1. Give us a sense of purpose
2. Will get greater creativity
3. Feeling of security
4. Give us a need to be needed

Connectedness enable us to accomplish things that we cannot accomplish alone.

See... 2 are always better than 1.

Are you connected?

God & Business

Christian faith plus Chinese productivity

Employees of the Boteli Valve Group in Wenzhou The employees work under the customary symbols of the atheist Communist state
At first glance, it looks as though it could be any other factory driving the rapid development of the Chinese economy.

But this is no ordinary enterprise because here religious faith is as important as profit.
In fact, the owner of the Boteli Valve Group in Wenzhou would like to see all his staff convert to Christianity.

And such a factory is not a one-off: it is part of a growing number of businesses run by Christian entrepreneurs in one of China's key enterprise zones, whose success is now being studied by the Chinese government.

As he shows me the production facilities, the factory's general manager, Weng-Jen Wau, tells me that every month, $5m (£3m) worth of industrial valves are manufactured.
About 40% of the factory's output is exported to businesses worldwide.
But he seems to have limited interest in the sales figures - he is far more concerned to tell me about the place his family's Christian faith has in the life of the factory.
'Better workers' Every Monday morning, the senior managers gather together and pray about the business.

Weng-Jen Wau, factory manager
When [Christian workers] do things wrong, they feel guilty - that's the difference”
End Quote Weng-Jen Wau factory manager
Once a week, members of staff are encouraged to attend an on-site Christian fellowship meeting, where they read the Bible and pray for each other.
Weng-Jen Wau believes that by encouraging increasing numbers of his staff to convert to Christianity, his business will prosper.

And he tells me that when staff do convert to Christianity, their attitude towards their work is transformed.
"If you're a Christian you're more honest, with a better heart," he says. "The people who aren't Christians aren't responsible. I think it's very different.

"I'm not saying those people who aren't Christians are all bad, but from the percentage of the workers who are Christians, they seem to be more responsible.

"Also when they do things wrong, they feel guilty - that's the difference," he explains.
One of the workers I met who had recently converted to Christianity explained that he had known nothing about the religion before he started work at the factory.

But he said that his new-found faith was now a source of daily inspiration.
He told me that he was now trying to convert his friends and colleagues to Christianity.
"If everybody became a Christian, it would have a very big impact, and would really help the development of our factory," he said.

Work ethic So I asked Mr Wau how much religion was a factor when he was recruiting new staff.
"Of course I would choose the Christians first, definitely," he said.

Professor Zhuo Xinping
It's very important to find the secret of social development, the so-called potential forces for a nation”
End Quote Professor Zhuo Xinping Director of the Chinese Institute of World Religions
Such comments could prompt accusations of discriminatory practice in some countries, but he had no doubt about the sort of impact Christianity could have on Chinese business.
"I think if all enterprises absorb this Christian culture, we will have a much more harmonious society," he said.

There are obvious questions about whether the staff really have discovered Christianity, or whether they are simply responding pragmatically to a clearly defined vision for their company.
Those I met were keen to stress the significance of their new faith, and the lack of pressure to convert - though there was no disguising their bosses' clear desire to boost Christian numbers in the workforce.
But the wider role of Christian entrepreneurs in the economic success of the Wenzhou private enterprise zone has not gone unnoticed by the Chinese government.

Far from being regarded as a religious oddity, the impact of Christian-run businesses is now being studied by Chinese government officials.
At the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in Beijing, I met Professor Zhuo Xinping, Director of the Institute of World Religions.

He specialises in the study of Christianity's growing influence in China - and has plenty to say about Wenzhou's Christian entrepreneurs.

He tells me that the city was visited by substantial numbers of Western Christian missionaries during the 19th Century and thus has - by Chinese standards - a long history of Christian faith.

Today it has an unusually high number of Christians for a Chinese city - with some estimates suggesting Christians now make up 20% of the population.

But what really interests him is the way in which the growth of Christianity and economic prosperity have happened side by side.

The Boteli Valve Group in Wenzhou, China The factory has a monthly output worth $5m
He tells me that Chinese researchers are considering whether in Western history there is a link between economic prosperity and Protestant Christianity - and they are questioning what that might mean for today's China.

"It's very important to find the secret of social development, the so-called potential forces for a nation," he says.

"When it comes to Western countries, the majority Chinese understanding is that this potential force is Protestant Christianity."

Christian faith may sound like an unlikely component in China's future economic success.
But the notion that newfound faith can inspire a workforce to increased levels of productivity is being taken seriously not only by Christian businessmen, but by China's Communist - and officially atheist - leaders.

Perhaps...

Perhaps it's better to drop everything and leave. Don't serve, don't relate. That will save a lot of heartache.

1040 Movie

Watched 1040 last nite. It was very inspiring. Different inviduals standing up for a greater cause, and advancing the kingdom of God with boldness and wisdom.

The power of God and the work of the Holy Spirit was so evident in the lives of people. Many young people rised up to heed the call. Our calling is to fullfill God's purpose in our generation.

God wants to use us to fulfill his purpose, but are we willing to be his vessel?

Had a conversation with MsLee earlier. I notice that she was a little down. Wonder why...
She told me that she was really sad because she felt she is not growing... not improving in her skills.

She felt stupid at time.

I told her... well, perhaps you really need to get back to class. Work something out.

weird Friday

I am glad that Expo Digital website is finally up. Time to work on Phase #2. Yes, that's my baby. Will have to take good care of it. Much attention is needed.

Things didn't go very well, today... but I thank God for gracious clients. Both jobs kinda have a slight road block... 1. poster didn't fit into the frame, which we have to re-do and the client was gracious enough to give us the time to re-produce again. 2. Driver just went back home after failing to find the loading bay at Mid Valley, talk about responsibility.

Kinda feel stupid after I propose something to client. Just hope that all will turn out good.

Reminder to self:
1. Be humble
2. Have a servant heart.

I am in love

Yes, I am in love with KK! The land it's really beautiful! Not as busy as KL obviously. I LOVE the beaches! Love the mountain! Words can't describe the beauty of the land. hahaha OK, the company also makes it a superb trip!

Trish, Aaron, Chrystin and myself... we conquered the mountain! Trish said it's not challenging at all. She really love hiking. Me, I love the breeze and the view!

Those are Aaron's god. He has 4 dogs! Gosh... that's a lot of dogs I think. Yup, all 7 of us stayed in Aaron's house. Personally I think Aaron's  parents are very cool.

Sabah... got a lot of noodles. They have yummy noodles. But I still prefer mom's homecook food. Best meal was on the night where Aaron's mom cook for us.

1st sea that we visited... Sutera Harbour. Love it. I was walking around alone while the couples and Trisha busy taking pictures. This is the place that captured my heart. hehehhe

Aaron and Max, the actors for our short clip.

Visited skyline. Nope... nobody there, we just walked in. hehehe
and i spotted these...

and this...

Esther made this board. Am very proud of her =)

I took 6 hours to reach Laban Rata. Wanna try carrying my own bag instead of hiring a portal.  Pretty tiring, and hard to breath, but it was good... err if i m not mistaken, this is like 1km away from Laban Rata. Was enjoying my climb.

View from Laban Rata. Dinner was at 5pm... we got to sleep after dinner because next climb was at 230am. Can't climb later then that cuz then it will misty and won't be able to climb to the peak, and yes, we all made it to the peak.  It was a good experience.

Things i learn from the climb:
1) Never quit
2) it's okay to be slow, but certain of your steps
3) there's no need to compete with others, just enjoy the journey... enjoy the climb
4) God created the mountain, he also able to move the mountain

I almost didn't make it to the top. wanted to give up.. I think I was only 1km away from the peak. It was so dark... No one in front of me... and when i look back, no one was behind me either. The fear creeps in and my mind kept telling me, I should just stop, but thank god... as I slowly hike I saw human figure, at first it was ok, I was just following behind them, but as they hike... the go further and further away from me... therefore I gather all my strength, go up to that person and asked if we could hike together. Thank God, he didn't leave me... else I will be in fear again. yes, indeed two are better than one. The climb seems much much easy than me hiking up alone. I was at peace... I felt very very secured. I think it's my first time feeling such security.

It was a good trip. Found peace and was being refreshed. Love them all... I think we bonded during this trip, and yes... I am in love with KK =) Kuching, no more in my list heheheh
